The Asia Pacific Conference Localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Leaving No One Behind

PWDC in partnership with the Penang State government and the two local councils in Penang (MBPP and MPSP), together with other UN partners to be confirmed, have embarked on the organisation of an Asia Pacific Conference on Localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Leaving No one Behind.

This Conference is scheduled to take place in Penang for two days: October 25th and 26th. It aims to bring together persons from all over the region, including persons from national and local government agencies, policy and budget specialists, gender specialists, and persons from regional and local research institutions, academia, civil society groups and other interested parties.

The main objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Create awareness of best practices and lessons learned on SDGS at sub-national and local government level in the Asia Pacific, and, through such sharing, to build capacity and collaboration for success across the region;
  • Emphasise and explore the importance of gender equality as fundamental to the attainment of all the SDGs;
  • Contribute to a better understanding of and between potential partners in the implementation of the SDGs at the sub-national and local government level and to cultivate an environment whereby inter-relationships between state, local government, citizens, academia, civil society, the private sector and other stakeholders can result in smart partnerships for the successful attainment of the SDGs.
